It has since grossed over $170 million worldwide and holds the record for the longest continually running movie release of all time. A box office flop so ker-splatty it was pulled from the few screens showing it back in 1975, only to be lovingly resurrected by a devout fanbase. For more than 40 years, The Rocky Horror Picture Show has defined what we mean by a ‘cult’ movie, though few can ever hope to match its phenomenal level of ritualised worship. So if you’re looking for more Krampus, look no further than Tubi.Every Saturday night since 1977, cross-gendered disciples in corsets and ripped fishnets have congregated to chant and sing along to The Rocky Horror Picture Show as if attending some gloriously kinky midnight mass. And while none of these movies are traditionally *good*, they do have their own charms… This is the wonderful world of no-budget horror we’re talking about. And the killer isn’t female Krampus or even a witch, but rather a woman in a Michael Myers mask. Mother Krampus 2, however, is a sequel in-name-only, having nothing whatsoever to do with the previous movie. As for Mother Krampus, well, that one’s actually about the unrelated holiday witch known as Frau Perchta, the movie turning the Christmas witch into a sort of Freddy Krueger-like character out for revenge. The Reckoning (above) is the one with a fully computer-generated Krampus, but otherwise it’s one of the better uses of the Krampus mythology on this particular indie level. I’ve been working my way through the list this month, having thus far watched Krampus: The Reckoning, Mother Krampus, and Mother Krampus 2.
